Claim basics
How a Personal Injury Claim Works
A clear overview from investigation through negotiation or litigation.
A claim begins with understanding the event and identifying potentially responsible parties and insurance coverage. Investigation may include reports, photographs, records, witness accounts, and other available evidence.
As treatment progresses, the damages picture becomes clearer. A formal claim can then present responsibility, injuries, expenses, lost income, and other harm. Negotiation may resolve the matter; litigation may be appropriate when it does not.
