Dog-bite claims involve more than the wound itself

California law may impose responsibility on a dog owner when a bite occurs in a public place or while the injured person is lawfully on private property, subject to the facts and available defenses. Other animal attacks may require a different negligence analysis.

We look at ownership and control of the dog, where and how the incident occurred, prior reports when relevant, insurance coverage, scarring, infection risk, emotional harm, and any need for future care.
